Lead researcher: Michael Emerson
Michael is an Associate Senior Research Fellow at CEPS. He worked for the European Commission from 1973-1995, including as the first ambassador of the EU in Moscow. His main areas of expertise are relations with Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Cyprus; EU relations, political economy of the wider Europe, and democratisation in South Eastern Europe.
Michael is leader of the Work Package, 'Contemporary Conflicts and Ethnic-religious Tensions'.

Researcher: Amel Boubekeur
Amel is a Research Fellow and leader of the Islam and Europe programme at CEPS. Her work looks at Islam in the West (Europe / USA), multiculturalism; the European Neighbourhood Policy toward the Arab states; Arab civil societies; democratisation and political Islam; and European Foreign and Security Policy.
Her work has focussed on Western Europe, the United States and Algeria.
