MICROCON Director: Dr. Patricia Justino

Patricia is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, and Visiting Fellow at the Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs, Harvard University.

Her main areas of specialisation are applied microeconomics and quantitative development economics. Current research work focuses in the microeconomic analysis of the impact of violent socio-political conflict on household welfare. Other research work includes the measurement of inequality and poverty, the role of social security and redistribution on economic growth and welfare in developing countries and the impact of trade liberalisation and economic reforms on household income mobility in developing countries.

She has worked on a number of geographical areas, including Latin America, India and Vietnam.

Patricia is leader of the Work Package, 'Policy Relevance and Implications'.

Becky is responsible for the overall administrative coordination of MICROCON, including financial matters and organisation of the annual workshops.

Freida is responsible for the communication of MICROCON's research outputs, maintaining the MICROCON website and for administering the programme's training component.

Researcher: Dr. Rachel Sabates-Wheeler

Rachel is a development economist with extensive experience in rural development, institutional analysis and social policy, as well as poverty analysis relating to PRSPs and social protection. Rachel has published on issues of rural intitutions in post-soviet transitions; law and development and ethnicity and gender. She is currently involved in a number of studies that explore understandings for risk and vulnerability both conceptually and empirically.

Her geographic research focus has been primarily in Eastern Europe.

Researcher: Jaideep Gupte

Jaideep's areas of specialisation include causes, impacts and policing of urban communal violence; and vulnerability, social exclusion and associational structures within urban slums. Whilst working for IDS, he is also currently completing his doctoral thesis in the Department of Politics at the University of Oxford, entitled, 'Linking Asset and Physical Vulnerability with Infrapower: policing urban communal violence in Nagpada, Mumbai'.

His work has principally focussed on India.
