| 1. Welcome to the first MICROCON Newsletter
MICROCON, or ‘A Micro Level Analysis of Violent Conflict’ is a five-year research programme funded by the European Commission, which takes an innovative micro level, multidisciplinary approach to the study of the conflict cycle. MICROCON's Newsletter will be sent out every six months, and will contain news on the progress of the programme; the publication of research and policy working papers and policy briefs; events; calls for papers and job vacancies. If you haven't done so already, you can also sign up for alerts of publications in your area of interest as soon as they are published. |

2. MICROCON website launched - http://www.microconflict.eu MICROCON's website has launched today, and provides a range of information about the research programme. There are details on all of MICROCON’s 28 research projects, and there is the option of browsing projects by country. The website will also provide access to publications, training and events materials, news of upcoming events, calls for papers, scholarships and job vacancies. 3. Public Launch Seminar Report published MICROCON’s public launch took place on the 29th of March at the Institute of Development Studies, bringing together the programme consortium, policymakers, NGO staff and external academics. The seminar was intended both to provide more information for external stakeholders, and also to gain feedback on our plans from external academics, policymakers and NGO staff. It included talks from Stathis Kalyvas from Yale University, and Joán Esteban, Director of Polarization and Conflict. |

The MICROCON consortium came together for the first time on the 28th and 29th of March at IDS, to discuss a range of research issues, including the Conceptual Framework; Methods; Data Collection; Research Ethics and the Gender Action Plan. |
